I'm beginning to think that the majority of dog breeders I come across are imbeciles.
Ok, so maybe I'm just a self-righteous bitch, but is it just me or should breeders know a tiny bit about genetics? It's amazing to me, to get into the basics of color genetics and see breeders with nothing but a blank stare, drool hanging out of their mouth, saying, "Whaaaa?"
Is it so hard to understand that 'A' is dominant and 'a' is recessive? Or to understand that 'A' is agouti (banded hair shaft) and 'a' is self (solid colored)? Is it so difficult to understand that a recessive cannot carry a dominant gene, and in order to throw dominant at least one parent has to be dominant?
Case in point: I bred my blue otter doe (Out of a black otter x broken black) to a broken chocolate buck. Genotype for the blue otter doe is aa(t) BB Cc dd Enen. The genotype for the broken chocolate is aa bb Cc Dd enen.
A=Agouti (banded color shaft)
a=Self (solid color)
B=Black
b=Chocolate
C=Full color
c=Albanism
D=Dense Color
d=Dilute color
E=Full color extension
e=Non-color extension
I have four babies from the two.
2 REW- aa Bb cc Dd Enen? (This is a guestimate, cannot be proven until they are test-bred.
1 Black- aa Bb Cc Dd Enen (Same as above)
1 Booted Black Otter- aa(t) Bb Cc Dd enen (same as above)
The 'B' over-rode in this litter obviously. I probably have chocolate carriers but no chocolates at all. It's really not difficult to figure out basic genotypes. Just remember one parent gave a gene, if one gave dominant the other gave recessive, etc...
I am floored that most breeders cannot figure out these simple color genetics. Nothing like putting two animals hoping for the best! Why not put the odds in your favor? Save time, money, and potentially homeless animals! Wait, is that too logical for most?

It's been a little flaky...
What the hell is up with people lately?
It seems like most everyone I know is being incredibly flaky. At first, I thought it must've been something I'd done. But I can't figure out for the life of me what that possibly is. So, I call and never get a return. How can I fix a problem if you're unwilling to tell me what it is?
This is why I tend to take to only a couple of people. I hate people in general. Most people have motives for everything, they tend to be selfish and use you when they need you, and then drop you like a bad habit when they no longer do. I understand people get busy, but Christ! I have 3 kids under the age of 5, I run a 25 hole rabbitry, not to mention trying to fit in training the dogs each day. Oh and let's not forget cooking all the meals and attempting to keep this house livable. Yet- I can find the time to call YOUR ass and say, "Hi, how are ya?"
I'm just sick of people walking into my life with alterior motives and walking back out. I don't have time for bullshit and if they really knew me, they'd already know that.
So here I am, venting on my blog that I rarely post on... bitching and being genuinely negative. See what YOUR flakiness does to me? How about this? How about you just fuck off and don't bother calling months down the road when you want and/or need something from me? It'll save you from a verbal ass-raping and save me from the effort to do said verbal ass-raping.

Pedigree Dogs Exposed: Truth or Fiction?
So I was just messing around online the other day, when someone on one of the forums I frequent posted a link to youtube videos of this documentary done in the U.K. "Pedigree Dogs Exposed".
Thank God for this video- it said everything that I've been saying for a long time in regards to pedigree dogs, show breeders, and their breeding practices.
It was hard for me to watch at first, watching Cavalier King Charles Spaniels writhing in pain, Boxers having seizures, German Shepherds walking on wobbly hocks... made me ill. For all the talk of how bad "backyard breeders" are, no one seemed to be pointing out the ill-practices of show breeders.
I have always been of the opinion that form follows function. Unfortunately these breed clubs and registries do not feel the same and have created a form for each breed that suits their tastes. This is why we now have the huge gap between show stock and working stock. Sometimes one doesn't even resemble the other enough to feel like you're looking at the same breed of dog! Of course, I would almost say you probably aren't. Who knows what is bred into these dogs to get these kind of cosmetic extremes. It's rather frightening. What's also frightening is that they sell these dogs to the general public with the sales pitch that show dogs are worth thousands.
So let me tell you my story before I go much further into this blog. I once bought a "show dog". I'd always bought backyard bred dogs... normally kept pets, that's all I needed. I didn't need a "show dog". But I fell into the group that truly believes that all backyard bred dogs are unhealthy and your best chance for a healthy dog is to buy out of lines that have been health tested.
Wrong.
I remember finding Sienna's breeder, found her online. She was advertising puppies at the time, but when I first contacted her, I wasn't interested in a puppy. I was trying to meet breeders who were local to me. So I could decide later on who I felt had the best dogs. So, we decided to go visit. Big mistake with adorable 8 week old puppies on the ground. I fell in love with the little red girl in the corner. The one that surveyed everything, and decided that nothing was better than crawling into my lap and cuddling. How could I not take her home? Her father was a Champion- hips x-rayed, from a long line of OFA Good dogs. Her mother double-bred off that same bloodline. I was told left and right the grandfather of both parents (who is a very well known dog and OFA good) threw tons of OFA Good dogs, healthy dogs, dogs with great temperaments. I was so excited. I paid the lady the money and took her home that next week.
Shortly thereafter, I began to see issues.
Sienna was scared of everything, especially men. She could not go anywhere with me without urinating or deficating. It was difficult. I was socializing her as much as I could, because it was especially crucial with her breed. Even all the socialization in the world wasn't breaking her of this habit. It took extensive obedience training to help her, and even then she was not the type of dog who would give strangers a warm welcome with me present. She lacked confidence and was still very aloof.
Then the patterned hair loss started, the skin scrapes always came back clear. No mites. Vet suggested food change. Started feeding holistic feed and the hair loss would subside- for awhile anyways.
She was always thin, and no matter how much we fed (8 cups a day on holistic foods, 10-12 cups a day on anything less expensive than that) she always looked super thin. A neighbor even called animal control on me claiming I wasn't feeding her!
Then, around 15 months of age, Sienna started going lame. I kept telling myself she injured her leg or hip. But I knew the truth deep inside. You know when something's wrong, and I didn't need an x-ray to tell me what I already knew. But I got that x-ray anyways, and this is what it looked like:

So much for generations of OFA good, huh?
First thing I did was contact her breeder, who pretty much told me to go to hell. The breeder who owned the stud dog would not take any responsibility stating that his stud had never produced an unhealthy puppy. Later that year, that same stud dropped dead from "unknown causes" at 3 years of age.
I invested thousands into this dog, to have to look in her eyes at 16 months old... on June 2, 2006.. and tell her I loved her and would miss her. No one should have to go through what I did. And I have never been attached to another dog since her. She was my heart and always will be.
So do I think my dog didn't come from healthy lines? Well, I'm sure most of the dogs in her pedigree were healthy per say. Then what's the problem? Inbreeding. Oh wait, it's LINEBREEDING if they turn out okay. ;)
Think of it this way: every person in the world carries a gene for some genetic disease/mutation etc.... you lower your chances of having children with that mutation by reproducing with someone not related to you (although this is not fail-proof since they could have the same genetic marker). Now if you would happen to have babies with your cousin, you have a MUCH greater risk of passing on that gene/problem, being as how there's a good chance your cousin carries it too.
It's pretty simple really.
So the argument of dogs coming from good healthy lines and inbreeding on those lines to produce healthy puppies is ridiculous. There is NO SUCH THING as a bloodline (be it people or dogs) that is free from recessive genes that carry genetic issues. Your best line of defense is breeding animals that are NOT related. If you do so choose to ignore that way of doing things, and do happen to breed relatives, you should be prepared to cull. Heavily.
I really felt this video was an eye-opener. It was not your stereotypical attack on BYBs but simply a bold look inside the world of competitive dog-showing. I personally urge everyone to check it out. I know it's being broadcasted on BBC-A.
So I will leave you with this. I could go on and on about this subject, but personally I'm wearing thin. Watch the documentary if you can and make your own decisions. I personally will never shell out thousands for a pet again. I might as well rescue one that someone didn't want in the first place.

PDL Companies AKA Loan Sharks
I am going to make a post here with my opinions on the Payday Loan industry. Most people aren't going to agree with me, I'm sure. But, I am speaking as someone with experience with these companies.
The main argument seems to be that with the passing of HB 281 Ohioans have been robbed of a viable source of credit.
Let's look at something here...
They claim that 90% of people who take PDLs are not repeat customers... or only take out one and pay it right back.
Where did they come up with this? This must be "research" from the actual PDL companies trying to save face. But let's be real....
Most people take out payday loans in financial crisis. And during a financial crisis all you think about is making ends meet. For instance, we got trapped in them because our car's rack and pinion was shot. We NEEDED our car, with two kids, and hubby needing to get to and from work (and before you argue public transportation, we do not have 24/7 reliable public transportation in this county). So we took out 1200 in payday loans thinking "we can pay these off". We took 300 from 4 different locations.
These quickly grew to 600 a piece, because between having to pay off the 15 dollars per 100 that we borrowed, the fees that we accrued made it impossible to not have to keep borrowing more and more to pay off the first.
Now let's do the math:
600+ 110 fee (this includes tax on top of the 90 dollar payback fee)=710 dollars.
710 x 4=$2810
This is what we paid every month. Essentially we were paying $440 a month to borrow no money at all (because you pay off what you borrowed up front). $440 a month to BREAK EVEN.
That is more than my car payment and insurance. If you figure you end up actually borrowing 600 a month x 12= $7200 a year.
But!
The fees are $440/mo x 12=$5280 a year.
But really, are you borrowing 600 a month? Think of it this way.
I take out 600 from #1- I pay back 710. I am behind 110. So I take 600 out from #2 and pay it off... 710- I'm now behind 220. Number 3- another 600- 710 to pay off... I'm down 330... and so on. So with 4 of them, I'm not really getting any extra money, just fees of 440 coming out of my income.
So in reality, I am paying $5280 per year for 2400 dollars. Let's figure out that percentage rate shall we?
220% annual percentage rate.
That's where they get their rates from- from repeat borrowers, from the MAJORITY of people who use these services. Ever notice where these companies are located? Lower-class areas. They prey on people who are desperate. Sure, you can argue responsibility in borrowing money- but you know what? People forget about responsibility in borrowing when it comes down to having a car or feeding their kids or paying rent.
Personally, I think they should all be outlawed. Why? Because they prey on people! The debt consolidation company we are working with said they work with PDLs more often than ANY OTHER INDUSTRY when it comes to people's debt. We have to still pay 450 a month JUST TO PAY OFF what we have borrowed, and we won't have it paid off until December! That's a huge chunk of someone's income. The PDL companies are not interested in working with you to pay off your debt. They want their money right then and there. We were left with no other option- and even with PDLs we still struggle to make ends meet. Are they a Godsend? Hell fucking no they aren't, and don't let any asshole who's never borrowed from one convince you that they are.
What needs to be done is more options to people with bad credit to get credit, but the bottom line is... we need to take care of our own people. People who work their asses off everyday and their jobs get sent overseas and they are left with nothing to fall back on but a minimum wage job at McD's. That's the problem with society- we are all dispensible. And guess what, righties? YOUR party is mostly responsible. You can thank trickle-down economics for that one.
So while people bitch about HB 281 passing, I sit and cry as I watch the middle class disappear and the poorer get poorer in the hands of the same people who cry foul that yet another loan sharking industry is put out of business. I wonder what all the people in the states that don't allow payday loans do when times get tough? Amazing that most have economies better than Ohio's. Hmmm... how interesting.

Fat Women and Fake Confidence
Am I the only one who is absolutely annoyed by all these fat women on myspace with nasty titty shots and headlines like, "Officially rated thick"? I mean, seriously... no one wants to see your flapjack fat-girl droopy-boobs. Or at least do us a favor and buy a wonderbra? And why is it that they all seem to be B-cups on a 300 pound body? Is this a new trend? Huge chicks with tiny tits? I mean really now... padded bras people! Water bras! Ever heard of them?
I think the most annoying part about it is that being fat myself, I know you don't TRULY love your body for what it is. I have accepted what I am, and I may be comfortable with myself, but I'm not going to falsely broadcast that I'm proud of what I've become. At least I have some excuses though- I'm pregnant with my 3rd child, I've had milk in my boobs for Christ's sake, and all I do is cook and clean and take care of kids all day. So yeah, I've let myself go a bit. But what about these 25 year old 300 pound nasties that have no excuse? Wait, they do... it's called MCDONALDS, BURGER KING, WENDYS... oh, let's not forget HARDEES. Avoid the drive-thru, ladies. It works wonders. I know from experience.
Officially rated thick? No, you're just a lazy fatass. You sit around, stuffing Hostess cupcakes into your mouth at your desk job (if you even have a job), then go home, throw on some low-cut top that's 5 sizes too small and about 2 gallons of makeup and take your myspace pics. Ah yes, always remember chin-up! We don't want to see how many chins you REALLY have.
Cute face, chubby waist? No, the cute face part doesn't exist. Maybe cute FACES, since you have enough there for at least two. And the chubby waist looks more like you swallowed a semi-truck tire. If you are proud of that, then I feel sorry for you. Nothing like being proud of the fact your ass is going to have a heartattack by age 40! Hurrah!
BBW? Big is right. Beautiful is debatable. And woman? Well, go get the broom so we can shove your gut out of the way to check for sure. Ugh. I just puked in my mouth a little bit.
This also brings me to all the fat women who try to squeeze into clothes from Abercrombie. STOP. PLEASE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. YOU ARE NOT A SIZE 14! Hell, you're not even a size 22! No one wants to see your love handles and spare tires. And wear shirts with sleeves for crying out loud. Arm jelly is NOT attractive, I don't care if it's 90 degrees out. And shorts? Anything above the calf should be outlawed for you... cellulite is not this season's fashion! Bleh. If this makes you as sick to your stomach as it makes me, avoid Wal-Mart at all costs.
And for those of you thinking, "Well, you're fat too," let's look at a few things here.
Yes, I am fat. But I also accomplished a weight-loss of 55 pounds before I got pregnant. That's quite an accomplishment, and I plan on doing the same once I have this baby.
Secondly, I don't broadcast my weight problem to the world.
Thirdly, my clothes fit.
So, as a fellow fat-person, I have every right to be disgusted by those who seem to ignore common decency. I should be able to go to the grocery store without tossing my cookies. As should anyone.
In closing, I think we all should stand together and fight for my right to hold in our lunch.
Who's with me?
I think the most annoying part about it is that being fat myself, I know you don't TRULY love your body for what it is. In closing, I think we all should stand together and fight for my right to hold in our lunch.
Who's with me?

You mean you don't pee out of your vagina???
So I signed up on cafemom.com, right? I figure,hey- at least I can meet other moms and moms-to-be, strike up some meaningful conversation and whatnot. Blah blah. Upon reading some of the forums it hit me.
These people reproduce.
It was more frightening than humorous really. Seriously, you little sluts... just because you have the parts does not mean you are smart enough to contribute to the gene pool. In fact, if you don't know that urine never exits your vagina... well, all I can say is this: Go cull yourself. Do it in the most ridiculously painful way possible. I mean this. You are too stupid to live.
Unfortunately human rights interfere with darwinism and everyone thinks people should just have the right to have children. No, your inferior genetics simply pass on generation to generation and cause grief for my kids, my grandkids, and my great-grandkids. Do us a favor, please? Cut the uterus out. Snip snip for your idiot men. Pooping babies? What the fuck? Okay, first off, if Matt EVER said anything in regards to actually shitting the baby during labor, I'd surely not broadcast it. Secondly, by broadcasting it you're pretty much admitting you married an imbecile. So, what exactly does that say for you? Oh, it's adorable? The fact your husband is a complete dumbass is NOT adorable. It's downright disturbing. I'm surprised he knew which hole to stick it in... unless he didn't and needed direction, and well... frankly, we won't go there. Bad mental images.
I am going to keep this first blog short and sweet. You get my point. I don't need to spell it out for you.
